The stain decides the treatment

There is no universal stain remover, and anyone selling one is guessing. Tannin stains (tea, coffee, red wine) respond to acidic treatments; protein stains (milk, blood, food) need enzymes; grease and makeup need solvent-based spotting; and pet urine needs an enzyme or oxidising treatment that breaks the uric salts down rather than perfuming over them. A spot treatment on one stain runs from £40; a full-piece treatment where the problem has spread is priced on the piece.

Honest verdicts, given first

Some stains are permanent, and the honest answer is given before money changes hands. Dye transfer from dark denim on pale fabric, old stains that have been heat-set by a previous cleaning attempt with a steam mop, and anything bleached by a supermarket spray will improve but rarely vanish. Fresh stains treated quickly almost always come out fully. The assessment tells you which situation you are in, and the quote reflects it.

Odours: treating the source, not the air

Smells live in the fabric and the filling, so spraying the surface achieves nothing lasting. Pet accidents are treated with enzyme products that digest the source; smoke and cooking smells with oxidising treatments and a full extraction clean; damp and mildew odours with antimicrobial treatment after the moisture source is addressed. Where contamination has soaked through to the cushion foam, the honest options are explained: deep treatment, cushion refill replacement, or both.
